Christmas in July

Thanks for stopping by.

Everyone's favorite challenge this week at The House That Stamps Built: Anything Goes. And yes, you guessed right, I went with Christmas in July, it is time to get moving on those Christmas cards, time is flying by and Christmas will be here before we know it.

I made a watercolor background in cheery reds to go with the fun 8806-N, Penguin Trio. I colored with Copics, added a bit of  Stickles to the hats and earmuffs, liquid snow to the ground and that was it, quick and easy and I must say cute!

As always time you join the challenge at The House That Stamps Built you get a chance to win the monthly drawing for a $25 Repeat Impression gift certificate, use a Repeat Impressions stamp and you get an extra chance!

Check out the great designs by my talented teammates, they always awe me with their talent!

Starfish

It's a relaxing, peaceful Inspiration Photo this week  over at The House That Stamps Built:

No automatic alt text available.

My take was to do a soft oceany watercolor wash.  Then I stamped Repeat Impressions 4111-F, Starfish (sm) with Distress Inks 3 times on kraft cardstock, distressed with another shade of Distress Ink, fussy cut, distressed the edges with a distressing tool, used a darker Distress Ink on the edges and added to the card below:

I went with the middle row: Sweet Treats-Paper Piecing-Lime Green.  My mom had just shared some polka dotted paper with me which was perfect for this.  I used Repeat Impressions: 9302-P, Cupcakes and will add my sentiment when I know what occasion I am sending the card for.

Floor polish technique

I sorted through a couple technique photo albums, and repurposed some of the cards and put some in a pile to repurpose onto cards, and some in the recycle bin.  This was one of my all time favorites so I cut the top layer off and made a new card out of it.  It was the very old Future floor polish technique, I can't even find it on the Internet but found a similar technique called Caught in Crystal.  You drizzle clear crystal lacquer on acetate (in my case Future floor polish), Randomly drop about 3 colors of alcohol ink on the crystal lacquer or floor polish.  Sprinkle with Mica Powder and use a brush to spread you crystal lacquer or floor polish to cover the acetate.  Next crumple a piece of tissue paper, uncrumple and place over the liquid, lightly smooth.  Let dry overnight.  Trim to size, flip over and stamp your image with Staz-on ink on the front of the acetate and finish as desired.

Oxide Ink Cling Wrap Background Tutorial

Donna here with the presentation of the week for The House That Stamps Built.  I choose Distress Oxide Cling Wrap Background and had a lot of fun with this.  I hope you will enjoy my tutorial and give this technique a try.  I will be posting more cards at a later date that I make with more of the fun backgrounds I created!

The supplies you will need are: cling wrap, Oxide Distress Inks,  (you can substitute watercolor powders or watercolors), a spray bottle of water, watercolor paper (you can substitute a good quality glossy card stock).

I am going to explain two versions, both are fun and striking, the second version requires more time patience.

Version one:
1) Spread Cling wrap on your work surface.  Smoosh Distress Oxide inks on the cling wrap,  on my second go round I did not overlap them as much and liked those results better:

2)  Spritz liberally with water:

3) Set card stock (4 /1/4 by 5 1/2 ") on the ink.  Press down and scrunch the cling wrap a bit:

4) Flip over and scrunch cling wrap up and add any more colors to achieve desired look and more of a scrunched look.:

Second version:  After laying the cardstock down on the Distress Oxide Inks flip over and let dry completely, no heat tool,  be patient.

Complete cards as desired:

I hope you enjoyed this technique and will give it a try, I would enjoy seeing your creations!
